Principles of sustainable entrepreneurship

In 1987 the World Commission on Environment and Development of the United Nations (the Brundtland Commission) described the process of sustainable development. It is a process in which the exploitation of resources, the making of investments and the steering of technological development and organizational change are in harmony with each other, for both current and future generations.

Less environmental pollution
At CVG we constantly consider the environmental effects of all our activities, and aim to ensure that they do not obstruct the above-mentioned process of sustainable development. We strive for continual prevention and reduction of environmental pollution and of course we meet all legal requirements.

At the global level we support the most important goals for paper production:

Sustainable forest management
Efficient use of energy

Sustainable forest management
Through sustainable forest management we can ensure that forests continue to provide, both now and in the future, the products and services that society demands. This is why CVG strives to obtain pulp from sustainably managed forests. The Royal Netherlands Paper and Board Association (VNP) wants an internationally recognized certification system for sustainable forest management to be introduced as quickly as possible and is making an active contribution towards this aim. CVG supports this goal in full, and is in continual consultation with the VNP, environmental organizations and the government.

Increased energy-saving
We are making our factory processes even more energy-efficient. We have signed the Energy Efficiency Agreement and the Energy Efficiency Benchmarking Covenant. Furthermore we actively participate in projects of the Knowledge Centre for Paper and Board, in which we chiefly focus on making paper production more efficient and energy-saving

Dutch paper industry economical with energy
The Netherlands has signed the Kyoto Accords and has undertaken to reduce its CO2 emissions. This means that we must bring down our energy consumption even further. In the meantime an independent institute has measured the energy-efficiency performance of a large number of paper and board factories all over the world. Most of the Dutch paper mills are among the top ten worldwide, and CVG is one of them.
